Sharing our favourite romantic adventures in the Ballarat region

So, you’ve done the groundwork and conspired with your partner’s boss to whisk them away for a weekend of romance and indulgence. You’ll already score brownie points, but how can you make it even more incredible?

Here are our favourite romantic adventures and things to do as you explore the wonders of the Ballarat region. To make your stay extra special, you could enjoy:

  • A night on the town
  • Breathe in fresh air
  • Enjoy an award-winning local drop (or two)
  • Stay in for the ultimate indulgence

A night on the town

Enjoy a sophisticated night out with excellent food and hospitality. The emerging hospitality scene in the Ballarat region is a real foodie’s delight. Here are our insider tips for exploring the walkable delights of Mair St (ssshhh!):

  • Step inside the glistening Art Deco interior of Renard in Mair Street to kick off your evening in style. Owners and Ballarat hospitality royalty Teddy & Louis Powlett offer “modern bistro-style dishes alongside great cocktails, wines and good times.” We couldn’t agree more.
  • Wander one block up to Raggazone. This warm and intimate Italian restaurant hits the mark with seriously good food minus the stuffiness. Their rotating chef’s selection dinner means less worrying about what to order and more time for uninterrupted conversation.
  • Round off the evening at the deliciously cosy Comfort of Strangers bar, just a few doors down from Raggazone. This cozy neighbourhood bar is the perfect place to round off your night with a warming whiskey in hand.

Breathe in fresh air

Fresh air, open natural spaces and waterfalls – the stunning trifecta – are all within easy reach. Mount Buangor offers a 15km network of walking tracks where you can explore landscapes such as eucalypt forest, creek flats, waterfalls and steep escarpments. Don’t miss the waterfalls, and you may even spot a wallaby. Why not pack a picnic and make a day of it, enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding Pyrenees region from the peak?

If you are staying at Jean-Claude, a walk up Mount Buninyong is highly recommended.

And right in the centre of town is the picturesque Lake Wendouree offering a picturesque leisurely still around. Just across the road are the stunning Botanical Gardens, which are well worth a stroll through. And if you happen to be strolling the lake on the second or fourth Saturday of the month, you can also enjoy the delicious Farmer’s Market there.

Enjoy an award-winning local drop (or two).

Spend the afternoon exploring some of the fabulous cellar doors in the region and indulge in the savoury, spicy reds the Pyrenees is renowned for. For a truly indulgent experience, you can book your private tour and let someone else take care of the driving. Winning! Just get in touch with Tim at Unwind the Pyrenees – 0447 842 262.

Stay in for the ultimate indulgence.
